Unable to Install Songsmith to Laptop ( with Vista 32 bit) .Net3.5

I am unable to install Songsmith. Please help. I have an HP Vista Premium (32 bits) with .net 3.5 service Pack 1 installed on my machine. Songsmith installation goes to the very last step except just before “finish” is expected to come up, I get an error message and the program undo the installation and says try again. (I tried numerous times all are unscuccessful). The error message is as follows: Error 1001. The type initializer for ‘System.Management.ManagementPath’ threw an exception --> Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {CF4CC405-E2C5-4DDD-B3CE-5E7582D8C9FA} failed due to the following error: 8007007f

Any advice appreciated

Songsmith won't work,..Crazy list of exeption error bla after trial install

Hi there,..

Tried to install songsmith yesterday,.. installation went well,..

After clicking continue trial button songsmith comes up with this crazy long list.

Any nerd out there that has a clue on what this means?

How to avoid common installation mistakes

Vista comes with UAC and “Research output repository platform” installer may show error prompts during the installation such as,
*Cannot connect to Internet Information Server.(-2147221164)
*Failed to read IIsWebs table.(-2147024891)

Few Tips to avoid these error messages,

*Launch “Setup.exe” with admin privilege
-Right click “Setup.exe”, select option “Run as administrator”
-Current installer does not elevate user rights automatically, so this explicit action is required from user side

*Make sure that user has administrative privileges on the machine on which installer needs to run
-Add user to “Administrator” group
-User should have access to “%SystemDrive%\Inetpub” folder as installer creates default web application at this location

*Check that all IIS features are installed
-Default ASP.Net web application uses few IIS features, which does not get installed as part of the default IIS installation

*Enter correct IIS authentication details during installer screen
-Enter information in the correct format as, Domain\Username

Please make sure that user follows the above guidelines to avoid installer issues.

Tips to setup correct environment to run repository platform

The “Research Output Repository Platform” has been built using latest .Net Framework 3.5 and SQL Server/ Express 2008. Also, the installer sets up default ASP.Net web application which requires correct IIS configurations.

So, it is required to setup correct environment to run the platform successfully.

User can use the simplified Microsoft Web Platform Installer to setup machine before proceeding with repository platform installer from, http://www.microsoft.com/web/channel/products/WebPlatformInstaller.aspx(Make sure to select all IIS options under ‘application development’ section) Once user sets up the environment successfully, one can proceed with Repository platform installer.

Installation Problem (but I AM the administrator)

I have a diferent instalatin problem.

My Operational system is original updated XP 64bits, 2 GB MRAM, 120 gbytes, 3d graphics cards.

The windows installer could not be accessed.This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel assistance.

Yes. Could you please check the following:

1. The target SQL Server instance has Windows or Mixed Mode authentication enabled.

2. The user running the install has his login added to the target SQL Server instance.

3. The login is a member of the following roles:

a. dbcreator

b. securityadmin

c. serveradmin

If all of the above are true and you're still getting the same error even after explicitly launching Setup.exe as an admin, could you please try creating a new database through the SQL Server Management Studio?

Hi David,

No, the SQL Server instance information is not case sensitive.

On Vista and Win 2008 Server the Setup.exe needs to be explicitly run as admin. Our Beta 1 installer does not support automatic elevation. So even if you've logged-in as admin you need to launch Setup.exe by right-clicking and selecting "Run as administrator". Could you please try this?

Hi David,

Is the MS SQL Express instance you mentioned on the same machine on which you're running the install?

If yes, can you please confirm that you're entering the SQL Server instance name in either of the following two formats:

1. <ComputerName\InstanceName> example: mycomputer\sqlexpress

2. .\<InstanceName> example: .\sqlexpress

BTW, I'm not sure I understood which OS you have.

Hi, I have set up the server as follows:

Windows Server Web Copyright 2007 Microsoft Corporation

Intel Xeon E5410 @ 2.33GHz 4GB RAM Service Pack 1

With,

Microsoft SQL Sever Express 2008.

I am using Windows Authentication on my instance of SQL Server. The user in this case is an Administrator. It is also the same user that I am when I install the Research Platform.

My problem is that I get the message 'Please ensure that the SQL Server Instance exists and that you have access to it'. I have gone through the steps up to 6c, on the Beta installation instructions and can see no way to proceed.

Can anyone help?
