WWT Can't render the right click information pane / reticle at 120 dpi.

Hello again!

Thanks once again for such a great tool! WWT is a fun and easy tool to use to view astronomical photos and data!

My problem comes from using my pc at a high resolution and DPI. 1080P HD resolution at 120DPI. (Large Vista fonts)

When I run at higher DPI the right click information window and it's controls and text as well as the splash screen, layout on the screen as if they think the controls and text are still the standard desktop resolution. This looks very broken to the end user and makes it hard if not impossible to use at the higher 120DPI res with larger font size. Fixing this would make this program more accessable and usable in classroom situations where frequently larger fonts and higher resolutions are employed.

NO TEXT IN WHITE TEXT FIELDS

On my images of the sky (these are all right) I can see the white text fields, but there ist no text appearing (just the white fields).

How to proceed to get the respective text into the text fields?

Menu bars shaking

I have been trying to resolve the issue of both the top and bottom menu bars shaking violently for a couple of weeks now without any success. The image appear without any problems and the sky background does not appear to shake. Just the menus. I have rebooted, unplugged USB mouse and keyboards. The program is running on the Visa Home on a D630 Dell laptop, with 2GB memory and a Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Chipset Family video card.

Any suggestions would be great.

I don't think you are being reasonable Steve. No program anywhere is ever tested on every one of the millions of differently configured and spec'd machines. Their spec is correct... many machines with that config work fine... its just seems that a certain type of card is not able to render the images... that's not Microsoft's fault... its just bad luck for those of us who have those cards... I have one myself :(

A warning: The geniuses at ATI decided to discontinue support for the 9250 (and other cards) for versions of Catalyst after 6.5. (As far as I can establish version 6.5 does support those cards, but I have not verified this.)

Later versions of Catalyst will install on a machine but they will destroy your ability to use DirectX and will not work in any noticeable way.

Once installed it is very hard to uninstall the damage done by Catalyst. (I have not yet found a credible and comprehensive description of the process on-line.)

Don't let attempts to make WWT work destroy other abilities on your computer!

Similar issue here.

Details:

I see constellation outlines, the ecliptic and circles for objects, popups of object.
I see no stars ever, no earth, no panoramas.
I get sounds on tours.
I have png images in the application space under documents and settings, all look great.
I have installed twice. No change.
I have used windowed and full screen. No change.

System details:

Windows 2003 machine. (In many ways behaves like XP.)
Comes up as 2 Xeon 3 MHz processors, 1 GB of RAM.
Video driver checked (download and binary compare) is latest.
Video card is ATI Radeon 9250.
Direct X is 9.0C and tests run in dxdiag all pass.
OS etc. is patched up to date.
No proxy used.
Other software running, IIS, SQL Server (various), Visual Studio 2008 (including help system which uses DExplore, which is a bit flaky), IE 7 patched up to date. Virtual Earth working, Google Earth working, World Wind working (last time I tried).
WorldWide Telescope version is 2.1.6.1.
.NET is 3.5 and up to date.

Not sure what else I can say. I was relieved, in a way, to find that I am not alone.

I'll update the ATI Catalyst display control interface, but don't expect that to make a change.
