When designing layout of images, we thought of the design choices as structured or random. We though randomly placing the images would make the browsing pane look more interesting than a grid-style layout. A side-effect of this is that, since placement is random, sometimes there are clusters of images. Sometimes even when there's only two images, they can cluster. As you discovered, one work-around to rearrange the images is to resize the image preview window.

Both pure grid and random layout are relatively safe options from an implementation perspective. Shooting for something in between, e.g. 'random layout, but don't overlap images unless there's no more room' sounds easy, but like most simple-sounding solutions, the devil is in the details. Implementing this algorithm would require some additional time to develop, and significantly more time to test.

For version 1.1 we prioritized functional work such as allowing larger collages with more images, custom output sizes, and better Windows Live Photo Gallery integration.

Thank you again for your feedback, we'll make a note of it for any future releases.

At present I am limited to 50 photos and 121.9 centimetres squared. Each year I manually create a photo collage of all of my photos for that year and hang it on the wall for us all to see. The size is 600cm * 800cm and usually includes just over 100 photos. AutoCollage is going to save me an absolutely huge amount of time but at present I will have to generate 10 separate collages (60cm * 80cm) and join them altogether. Obviously this still saves me a huge amount of time but the result isn't what I want because it looks like 10 pictures all joined together. Could you increase the limits ?

Thanks (and BTW AutoCollage is a superb tool).

Both of your suggestions are great ideas, we'll pass them along to the product development team for consideration for any future releases of AutoCollage.

Niiice Job! What a sweet application!

Request for ver 1.5....

An easier ability to set the default "open" folder (ie- a 'tools/options') setting to enable

pre-positioning/staging photos as opposed to the current setup where AC2008 initiates

in the last known folder it compiled.

A minor annoyance. THANKS AGAIN...SUPER APPLICATION!

I have been searching for a long time for the result that AutoCollage delivers, here are some general comments about my findings as a user and suggestions for future releases based on my own user experience

Although the functionality is limited to the core AutoCollage function and no other variations, it is the collage effect I was looking for. It would be brilliant if the program could support more pictures than 25 but, I gather this is a balance of performance and stability during the early stages. Lets hope that this limitation can be overcome in the future.

With the manual face detection, there could be more related functionality such as resizing and repositioning the blocks

A click and drag function to re order the auto collage layout would be useful. Clicking 'create' delivers a different result every time so, a little more control over this and the possibility to move / off center an image would be great. For instance I generated a collage which was perfect except for the fact that there was a Giraffe in the collage that could have been better positioned.

All in all though, I am quite happy with the results and am likely to buy the licensed version

Best regards, Jonathan

Re: AutoCollage API

Hi Mike -

There is no published API for generating collages, and we have no announced plans to offer such an API in any potential future versions of AutoCollage.

Thank you for your question, sorry we don't have a more encouraging answer!

Re: Love this! Plus, suggestions

AutoCollage uses cutting-edge research to produce interesting collages. Like most image processing techniques, results aren't perfect, and sometimes you will see collages which a human could make better. We tried to make it easy to automically create a new collage - which will hopefully look better - in these cases.

Also, you can view and adjust face-detection results if you wish, which sometimes helps improve AutoCollage results.

We're considering features for any potential future release of AutoCollage, but don't have any specific details. We'll make a note of your suggestion to enable 'tweaking'.

thanks for your feedback!

Re: Love this!
If this changes, we'll be sure to post information in this forum and on our blog.

Thanks for your question!
