Thank you for your feedback and your question. Wow! 6 x 8 meters is quite large. Did you mean 60 x 800 cm or 600 x 80cm perhaps?

Unfortunately I don't believe we'll be able to increase the limits in AutoCollage to the extent you need, because of memory constraints. However, we'll make a note of your suggestion for any future releases of AutoCollage.

Thanks again,

This means it cannot, for example, load and evaluate all 1200 images in the folder to choose the ones for your collage. The reason for this is performance: AutoCollage loads information for every image it considers. This requires time and memory. We chose 300 as a limit for the number of images because with most types of images and most computers, AutoCollage could still do its job with 300 images.

If you're OK with doing a bit of selection of images yourself to give to AutoCollage, then you have two options to work around this limit.

Make a new folder, and copy the images you want AutoCollage to consider into that new folder. Ensure this is less than 300 images.

Use Windows Live Photo Gallery to choose a subset of up to 300 images from the folder, and use the 'Extras->Add to AutoCollage...' menu option in Windows Live Photo Gallery to send those images to AutoCollage.

There's more details about using Windows Live Photo Gallery in AutoCollage's help file, and in the online copy of AutoCollage help.

Thank you for your question, we hope this helps!

Re: Image Preview Pane

Thank you for your feedback on AutoCollage v. 1.1

When designing layout of images, we thought of the design choices as structured or random. We though randomly placing the images would make the browsing pane look more interesting than a grid-style layout. A side-effect of this is that, since placement is random, sometimes there are clusters of images. Sometimes even when there's only two images, they can cluster. As you discovered, one work-around to rearrange the images is to resize the image preview window.

Both pure grid and random layout are relatively safe options from an implementation perspective. Shooting for something in between, e.g. 'random layout, but don't overlap images unless there's no more room' sounds easy, but like most simple-sounding solutions, the devil is in the details. Implementing this algorithm would require some additional time to develop, and significantly more time to test.

For version 1.1 we prioritized functional work such as allowing larger collages with more images, custom output sizes, and better Windows Live Photo Gallery integration.

Thank you again for your feedback, we'll make a note of it for any future releases.

We highly recommend that users download and try the application before purchasing the product key. Even for users that don’t face any setup issues there may be performance issues, since it is very hard to anticipate the performance of image processing applications in different hardware configurations.

Another issue that we became aware of recently is that some unauthorized sites are making AutoCollage available, for free or for a fee. Please make sure that you only download AutoCollage from the official site. The setup file for v1.0, named MicrosoftAutoCollageSetup.msi, has 7,171,072 bytes, and the file should have a digital signature from Microsoft Corporation, with a Timestamp of July 16, 2008 (you should be able to verify the time stamp opening the file properties dialog and looking at the “Digital Signatures” tab).

Microsoft Research AutoCollage 2008

Can you please tell me if we are able to buy this great program in Australia yet????
