    Cannot install in XP

I am trying to install in XP (SP3) and near the end, the installation backs out and I get a message saying "The installer was interrupted before microsoft research autocollage 2008 could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again." I get the same message when I try again. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I had the very same issue in a Virtual PC with XP SP2

Then I installed it in my Vista PC without a problem. Really don't know where it could come from

    Derek,

A possible reason for this is that some previous installation is pending a reboot that still didn't happen, what may prevent our setup from committing its changes. A way to investigate if that is the case is to reboot and verify if the AutoCollage setup succeeds after that.

Another possibility is for you to have some outdated version of the Windows Installer redistributable. Although that by itself shouldn’t prevent the setup from succeeding, older versions of the Windows Installer are more likely to have issues like the one of pending reboots cited above. You can get the latest version of the Windows Installer redistributable from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4. After installing it, and very likely rebooting, please retry installing AutoCollage and let us know of the results.

I rebooted and got the same result when trying to install. I had already recently rebooted because I needed to install the latest .net framework.

I installed the latest Windows Installer redistributable from your link, rebooted, and still could not install AutoCollage. Thanks for your suggestions. Do you have any others?

    Re: Cannot install in XP

    Hi Derek,

As a result of some misconfiguration, some software components may not be properly updated in a few machines. Would you confirm that you can go to the site http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and that site is able to properly detect and offer updates to your Windows XP?
You don't need to perform any given update (although that is certainly good, mainly for critical ones) but just to verify if the components to detect the need for updates are "up-to-date" (I know this may sound ironic).

    Thanks.

Thanks -- that worked. The windowsupdate site asked me to install the latest update detection program. I did, but did not install any of the minor suggested updates. Then the AutoCollage installation worked fine. Thanks again.
