Error Message when trying to install

I get a message, "setupwwt.exe is not a valid Win32 application" when I try to run the installation. Any suggestions?

Re: Error Message when trying to install

    Same problem as Telescope 2.

    Using Dell Dimension E520 computer, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6420 (2.13GHZ, 1066FSB) with 4MB cache. 2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz.

    Can't locate a version # for wwt.

    Internet Explorer browser 7.0.6000.16643.

    OS: Vista Home Premium.

Other programs running: IE, ZoneAlarm Security Suite, Dell Support, Google Desk Top.

My graphics card is integrated in motherboard=NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Graphics GPU. I don't know if this meets wwt's requirements. Still, the error message that Telescope 2 and I received doesn't seem to relate to a graphics card.

    Appreciate any help.

Re: Error Message when trying to install

I'm getting the same error message that the other person did..  the text is:

    "... setupwwt.exe is not a valid win32 application."..

I'm running it on Windows XP SP3, 2Gb RAM, 2.6Ghz dual core processor.

    Thanks.

Re: Error Message when trying to install

Further info.. I just tried to do the download again and the initial download screen says that the application is 20.8Mb in size, however all it downloads to my PC is a file that is 399 KB (408,904 bytes) in size.

I don't know if the initial pgm (setupwwt.exe) is just a small 'loader' program or if something is set wrong at download central??  :-)

    Thanks, again..

TA DA!!   There must have been something amiss someplace..  because I was just able to try the download again and this time it downloaded the full 20Mb install program.. and I just installed it on my PC without any problems.

     Temporary glitch I guess..

    Thanks!   Happy star gazing everyone!

I also had this problem: error "Not a Win32 exe" when trying to install the WWT download that i had saved to my machine:

My system confirmed "download complete" however when i checked the exe size it had actually only downloaded about 319kb . I resolved this by selecting "run" instead of saving to the machine, and the entire 20MB program was installed.
  •  Version of WWT:
  • Operating System: Vista 32-bit
  • Running programs:
  • Browser type and version: IE 7.06
  • Video card:
  • I did try to install from a saved version several times, (including repeated downloading) to no avail. Only when selecting 'run' instead of 'save' was i able to complete the install. Not sure if that's the bonafide solution or just a flue. Good luck!

    Hope that helps!

Re: Error Message when trying to install

As with others who received the same strange error message, my installation was resolved by downloading the program a second time. I saved it under its default name this time rather than revising the name, which I had before (in case that made any difference), and the full program is in my regular "Downloads" file now, from where I was able to install it. Thanks to everyone involved. Great program!

I have WinsowsXP.  When trying to install i get -

DirectX could not find a file necessary for installation.   [ ... but does not  ID  the file in question ]
       Installation End
       Installation failed
Microsoft WorldWide Telescope has been successfully installed.

Followed by failure to launch of course .  Any suggestions ?

    Try this:

Save WWT Setup to a different directory

    • Create a folder called "wwt" on your root drive Example: c:\wwt"
    • Go to http://www.worldwidetelescope.org/ download WWT. When prompted, Save the file to the folder you created.
    • Navigate to the folder you created and run WWT Setup.
    • Delete the setup file and folder once installation is complete

That's exactly what I did    with the above result.   I even put all the WWT files is that folder for good measure.  Too bad, it looks like a nifty application.

    Hi BillyPilgrim,

    Try the following:

    1. Install the latest drivers for your video card from the video card manufacturer
    2. Reinstall DirectX 9.0c
    3. Reinstall .NET Framework for your system type

    Hi Chuck Needham

After making theupdates you suggested ( and all the updates that that required ) I managed to get launched.

Thank you for your inestimable assistance.  Now if I can just get WWT to behave, and figure out how to use it ...
