I have also a Radeon 9200 / XP and the same problem. No image at all, only constellation lines. I hope MS will solve this quickly

Kevin A:

I saw the same problem, and fixed it by updating my NVIDIA driver, as suggested in an earlier post on this thread.  I also used option 2 at http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us.  Looks like there is a dependancy on the version of graphics card driver you have installed - perhaps updatign to the latest one will fix the problem for everyone....

I too have the same problem, but the problem still didnt resolves even after i upgraded my GEFORCE 8600GT DDR3 256MB driverfrom the site...

My specs is:

Intel Core 2 Duo E700 2.53GHZ

2GB DDR II RAM

WINDOWS XP PRO SP3(doesnt work with SP2 as well)

200GB SATA drive

but i do have a 512k "brodband" DSL connection, if WWT needs a higher speed to run then i will not able to use it, sigh..., i have no problems for Second Life and Google Earth though..

Um... good folk at Microsoft...

I was wondering if there are any software options that you may not have considered allowing to be turned off before....  but that,  without which, we might suddenly start working... albeit in a more limited way.

This is just my uneducated guessing (and hoping).... but I though maybe you have some option always enabled like say anti-aliasing or some such that you never figured to turn off before since its fairly fundamental... but now maybe you could consider adding a disable option to get us working.

Just a dumb thought and a hope....

Yup, I am an ATI 9200 user as well and I downloaded WWT from download.com. I am usually guilty of trying something out then reading the specs later when it doesnt work, but I didnt see anything regarding a bug for 92# vid cards. I guess I will take Annylicious's advice and try WWT when most of the bugs are worked out....

hi rickg i was just wondering if you could tell whether its okay to change graphics card from my ATI radeon xpress 200 integrated chip set to NVIDIA geForce....i am able to see the images but does changing the card going to improve the image quality or is it a compromise ? thanks

 Same.

XP Pro SP3.

IE7

core2 duo

2G ram

ATI Radeon x1650se latest drivers.

reduce screen res or smaller window is O.K.

Turning off hardware acceleration stops it rendering images altogether.

Change to 16bit colour doesn't help.

Marvelous app.

Thanks.

Well, here we are in November 08, and to my surprise there was a new Autumnal version. I quickly downloaded it to my laptop where I have occasionally been playing with WWT, then immediately thought. "They had to have fixed the ATI 92xx issue - like ten zillion people had the same problem. I need to download this to my P4 sitting behind my LCD TV," The excitement was overwhelming. My wait was over, because a new video card in an older but quick machine is not only a waste of money, but usually prompts to just get a new machine,

Download, and installation SUCCESSFUL.......here we go.........

Well, much to my dismay, with everything up to date, I still get a working program that shows mw only the constellation lines.

Where's the Prozac when you need it.

FYI, The bug also exists on Mobility Radeon X1600, and likely on all X1000 series Radeons. Hardly a tiny portion of the market. It's IMO inexcusable to not fix such a clear bug that has been present for the last half year.

Yes! It's incredible that this bug hasn't been fixed in this new release of WWT!

I'm considering seriously deleting the program from my computer and forget it for ever Sad

I agree that Microsoft Or ATI Or BOTH need to look into this problem ASAP.

[rant]

Sure the program is free and really neat.

But it dosnt give either companys a good rep not fixing this problem in the fall release or even admitting there is an issue at hand.(ati being not much  better as they release new video card drivers every month!!!)

I have had WWT installed on my main PC for a few months now, thinking it would be fixed eventuly... but i guess its time to uninstall because im tired of seeing the Icon on my desktop or in program files - tired of being reminded that my computer which is pretty much as high end as you can get is not capible of rendering a few streaming high rez images.. (pats main computer on the back: "its ok girl, not your fault")

Meh - works on my laptop so i can always use it there.

Just dont see myself using the program as often that way.. cant see myself booting up the laptop just to run WWT - i would have to be really bored to do that instead of the countless other things that my main computer is capible of.

gg Google Sky 4 the win - not in quality of product.. but at least in compatibility!

I thought the problem was because i have a 4870x2 which uses crossfire tech - but seems there is alot of other Ati users with the same or simular  issues.

My video card is capible of decoding Blueray or HD-DVD Codecs with hardware alone and yet it cant even render a few high rez streaming Images. Confused

Um....  You do know that it works if you run it in a window and make it a bit smaller than full-screen, don't you?

Or doesn't that work for everyone?  I don't remember what the exact threshold dimensions are, just that it's a little smaller than HDTV-sized.  I know I've seen other people on here say that it worked, and it worked for me the last time I tried it.

As a matter of fact, I see someone mentioned it in the very last message just before this latest round of complaints.

No, I'm not defending Microsoft's inability to work around this bug (assuming it's an ATI bug), but I also hate to see people complaining about something when a workaround has been documented.

Sorry about the problems you're experiencing.

Some ATI cards don't seem to support multiple textures, which makes crossfading in WWT not work.

But here we're talking about no images appearing at all in sky mode.

Some questions:

- What do you see when you choose SolarSystem mode? Can you see any planets there?

- Does WWT say it cannot reach the internet when you launch it even though Internet Explorer can happily go online? In that case, you can try typing 'itgproxy' in the Proxy Server box under Network and Cache in Settings.
