Similar issue here.

Details:

  1. I see constellation outlines, the ecliptic and circles for objects, popups of object.
  2. I see no stars ever, no earth, no panoramas.
  3. I get sounds on tours.
  4. I have png images in the application space under documents and settings, all look great.
  5. I have installed twice.  No change.
  6. I have used windowed and full screen.  No change.

System details:

  1. Windows 2003 machine.  (In many ways behaves like XP.)
  2. Comes up as 2 Xeon 3 MHz processors, 1 GB of RAM.
  3. Video driver checked (download and binary compare) is latest.
  4. Video card is ATI Radeon 9250.
  5. Direct X is 9.0C and tests run in dxdiag all pass.
  6. OS etc. is patched up to date.
  7. No proxy used.
  8. Other software running, IIS, SQL Server (various), Visual Studio 2008 (including help system which uses DExplore, which is a bit flaky), IE 7 patched up to date.  Virtual Earth working, Google Earth working, World Wind working (last time I tried).
  9. WorldWide Telescope version is 2.1.6.1.
  10. .NET is 3.5 and up to date.

Not sure what else I can say.  I was relieved, in a way, to find that I am not alone.

I'll update the ATI Catalyst display control interface, but don't expect that to make a change.

Hi MikeGale,

Unfortunately WWT is not supported on Windows 2003. Please see this post: WorldWide Telescope minimum system requirements

Hi Chuck,

 Thanks for that.

Are you going to support Win 2003 and 2008, at some time?

(I've always surmised that the graphics systems on Win 2003 and XT are much the same.  My expectation is that a fix for XT will be a fix for 2003, which I take to be a bit beyond the "minimum XT" category.)

I've learned to be pretty sceptical of the supported OS lists.  (Experience and periodic feedback from developers!)

I don't know if we plan on supporting the server platforms but, if we do I am sure you will see the update on the http://worldwidetelescope.org download page. I know what you mean in your last statment... only because I tried to install WWT on my Windows 2003 machine and found out for myself. Smile

My main display in wwT is black with constellation lines... no images.  Thumbnails, program actions zoom etc all seem to work without actually displaying anything in main view except the white rectangle and target circle etc.

  My system is:

Win XP Home version 2002 service pack 2 Pent 4 3GHz 512Mb ram

Video is ATI Radeon 9250 256Mb ram

wwT is 2.1.6.1

Firefox 2.0.0.14  also has IE7 installed.

Norton 2008 Internet Security.   No proxy.

Latest driver for video card installed:
Driver Packaging Version    8.252-060503a-038185C-ATI
CATALYST® Version    06.11
Provider    ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version    6.14.10.6614
2D Driver File Path    System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{5F518980-FFF2-4C0F-9C76-23ACB937A353}\0000
Direct3D Version    6.14.10.0399
OpenGL Version    6.14.10.5819
CATALYST® Control Center Version    1.2.2314.20337

Thanks for any info or assistance... this program looks like heaven-on-a-stick to me.  I will switch to linux,   buy a new video card,  sell my children,  whatever is necessary to make this supurb concept of a program live on my machine... cant wait....  Big Smile

Chuck Needham:

This issue may be caused by your proxy settings.

Dear Mr. Needham.

I don't believe it is Internet issue. I've found that images are being downloaded fine.

Cache folder  c:\Documents and Settings\MYACCOUNT\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\WorldWideTelescope\Imagery\  has a lot of folders such as 134741791, 25145512, 7391555 with none-empty png anf jpg files which I can view. All files are 256x256.

I see screen like this.

Also tried to re-install DirectX 9.0c, change resolution of Screen, tried different options in WWT Settings. No result.

Waiting your response. WWT sounds like great tool but we are stuck to start working with it.

Best regards,

Nicki

My trouble has been solved by reinstalling latest nVidia driver. My card is MX4000. WWT working great. Thank you Microsoft.

I went to this location that member Nicki found images.

I found that I have files she mentioned too. I have never noticed the download progress bar active on the WWT application but I guess it is downloading something. There is also a Microsoft Rearch folder in my application data folder, that contains a user config file.

For the record again I'm running XP sp2, P4 2.40 ghz, 1.43 gig ram. Firefox is default. IE6 and Opera also installed. Outpost firewall is configured to allow the application unfiltered internet access. directx and net framework were updated when I was hoping to fix the problem. My video is SIS 651 with the latest drivers. All display screens are white, and the sky has the pattern of lines, Earth displays as a white globe .

Hello! I have exactly the same problem: no images, only constellation lines, ecliptic, equatorial lines. I've got Windows XP and running the latest driver for my RADEON 9200. Already tried the solutions above. Thanks to anyone who will help me!

If the images are being downloaded it is usually a video card issue. Try upgrading your video card with the video card manufacturers most recent drivers.

Thanks for the homework and the wonderfuly verbose post!

Do you have the ability to try another video card?

Thanks,

Hi Chuck,

Unfortunately not.  Video card was standard with the HP...never did change it.

Any else I can try?

Thanks so much for your quick reply,

Steve
