Symptoms

(JIT) Debugging error

Cause

Either a missing or corrupt Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package or a missing or corrupt DirextX 9.0c installation.

Resolution

Install / repair Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package using the appropriate install for your computer:

Unable to update / uninstall older version

Trying to update from 2.2.32.1 to 2.5.22.1 - getting message that it's trying to find the installation package "wwtsetup.msi" - ("The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unvailable.") I'm assuming of the old version? Doesn't work with the new one I just downloaded, and no other versions exist on my computer.

Get the same when if I go "manually" through Start/Add or Remove Programs. "The older version can not be removed." - Huh?

I've never had this problem with any program - all I want to do is update! Help?

Win XP home, sp3; full admin rights, etc.

Multi-Monitor Cluster Setup

Hi,

on the WWT website, the feature list of the Windows client says that WWT supports "Multi-monitor cluster rendering". I assume that this means that I can render on a large tiled display. I further assume that the "Master Controller" menu entry in Settings > Advanced is somehow related with this as this starts some kind of TCP server. However, I did not manage to find out how the client setup would work. Do you have any hints for me or is there a manual for that feature? Furthermore, can I use this feature to do passive stereo rendering? It would be great if anyone could help me with some setup information for that.

Telescope doesn't work

After downloading ASCOM and noting that the "installed" notice appeared, I tried to check if telescope worked by clicking on the "Choose" button

The following message was sent instead of the selection images that WWT says should be gotten

"Error ' - 2147220416 (80040440)' execution time Failed to open / create root registry key (5)"

Apheilon Beta version used for WWT

Windows Vista Home Premium

Internet Explorer 8

program will not launch

I receive this message when trying to launch the program: "You need 3d Graphics and DirectX installed to run this application." I know that I have the latest DirectX installed because I just went to the Microsoft Downloads page and installed it. I *think* I am able to run 3D graphics. Is there a site where I can download 3d Graphics drivers? I am a teacher and am anxoius to try this out with my students.

Not Connecting to the Internet, Proxy issues, Offline Mode?

Symptoms

Unable to connect to Internet
Proxy issues
Off line mode
Receive this error: “WorldWide Telescope does not detect an Internet connection. Only cached information is available and some functions will not operate without an internet connection. Switching to off-line mode.”

Cause

WWT reads the connection settings in Internet Explorer. Some people behind firewalls and proxy servers are unable to change their settings in Internet Explorer.

Resolutions

There are two possible resolutions for this issue:

Resolution 1

Go to Internet Explorer-> Tools -> Internet Options -> LAN settings and check the “Use a proxy server for your LAN” (See screenshots). NOTE: Do this in Internet Explorer, even if your browser is not Internet Explorer.

Resolution 2

Hotfix Overview

This hotfix fixes Install issues, allows proxy configuration, and solves “install for everyone” issues on Microsoft Vista,.

There are two methods to install this hotfix.

1. Download and run this Hotfix: http://content.worldwidetelescope.org/update/wwtsetup.msi

2. In WorldWide Telescope click the down arrow under Settings and click “Check for Updates”

Problem:

a window pops up every time i click somewhere =/

it begins ranting about JIT debugging and such it has a solution at the bottom of the details

but it is rather confusing. (well to me anyway =] )

it says change the machine.config blah blah blah set JIT "true" blah blah blah

somethin like that i dont know where to find that configuration file though!!!

Will Not Install

When i download the application (it says it is only 400kb so i dont think it downloads completely) i will open the installer and it gives me this message "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." Is there any fix for this issue cause i had the program before and it worked fine on this laptop and now i am having these issues. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Telescope tracking not working?

Hi,

I have installed Ascom and chosen the Scope similator as the telescope. My system works fine with ascom and the POTH Hub as well. Without WWT, my real scope (Gemini mount) and my dome driver all work correctly with POTH.

Now, with WWT, using the similator to keep it simple, everything seems to work. I can slew, I can select center etc. However, WWT never seems to track the telescope. In other words, I can see the sky rotation in WWT even though I have selected " track telescope" The coordinates that WWT shows are in fact following the scope, but the sky is moving past. If I click on center, then the "sky" will jump back to the place the scope is acutally pointing.

As a matter of fact, the "track telescope" doesn't seem to do anything..

Any ideas what is going on? It seems to me that the sky is nott tracking the telescope position in real time and just drifting.

Installer fails: error code is 2755

i am trying to re-install the latest WWT on a Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook computer running XP sp3 for my brother, who is an earth science teacher. he had a previous version working ok, but uninstalled that after some sort of update problem. when we run the installer for the latest, "hotfix" version found at:

it fails after the license agreement with the message:

"the system cannot open the device or file specified"

after clicking cancel another dialog appears which says:

"the installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. this may indicate a problem with this package. the error code is 2755."

this happens when installing immediately after a restart. i have tried clearing the c:\temp directory, and also temporarily moving all items in c:\windows\installer to a subfolder. i have also updated windows installer to v4.5.

any help would be great. my brother has been counting on WWT for the astronomy unit he is currently teaching.

I live in Israel and found Autocollage on the Internet by chance. I love this product and would very much like to have it if Microsoft would allow the sale in my country. Why is this software not available worldwide. I am sure many people would buy it. It is a beautiful program.

Please somebody enlighten me if ever Autocollage will be available not only in a few privilaged countries but also for lesser beings in other countries?

WWT launches installer for each user

Running programs: from minimal to anything. (CC3 network with network resources in background)
Browser type and version: IE6 and IE7
Video card: various, not getting that far.

Hi there!.

I have had a look in the forum for similar problems but not found anything to help me so sorry if
this is a repeat.

I am trying to install WWT on machines used by multiple users (with limited rights) I have admin, I
have installed WWT, set up the proxy, and spent some time spinning around the star's. The problem I
have now is that when any other user comes along to use it, it starts off the installer again which
they can't complete due to access rights.

I did give one user admin to test with, and they were able to complete the install, but had no proxy
information setup.

is there someway i can 'install for all users' and it stick for all users?

gamepad works in all other sw, but not for WWT

My saitek P2500 gamepad is recognized and works in all other sw on my laptop, including ASCOM drivers to cotrol my mount. WWT recognizes I have a gamepad/joystick attached and the settings panel has the option for joystick checked on. However, I cannot get any movement on the secreen when using the gamepad. Any ideas?

I also connected an older MS dualstrike game controller, it was also recognized by WWT, however, once again, no movemnet.

Am I doing something wrong, is there a hidden setting?

I'm very knowledgeable with PCs and sw as it has paid my living for 20 years. However, sometimes, after trying all you can think of, there's nothing you can do but open a support call. As I am doing now.

Please help?

Cannot Install WWT in XP 64bits

I have a diferent instalatin problem.

My Operational system is original updated XP 64bits, 2 GB MRAM, 120 gbytes, 3d graphics cards.

The windows installer could not be accessed.This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel assistance.

After ASCOM driver install for Telescope Blue Screen

After I install the ASCOM drive my WWT has a Blue Screen and the PC crashes.

Any idea what might be happening? Or a fix?

Window XP used. WWT runs nicely until I install the ASCOM driver ofr my Mount.

Hi, thanks for this great program.

I have installed this on my notebook and all work fine. On my desktop I received the error in subject every times i tried to work on it.
Program starts, but when i move mouse over the tools bars (up or down bars) the error appears. I cannot receive any image...
I have just installed dot net 2.0 and directX 90c as required, but nothing...

Can you help me?

I get a message, "setupwwt.exe is not a valid Win32 application" when I try to run the installation. Any suggestions?

[XP] Installation fails when running without administrator rights

I tried to install WWT on my notebook running Windows XP. My user account does not belong to Administrators group but only Power User group.

Running "wwtequinoxsetup.msi", the installation wizard starts and asks where to install the program. During installation process even the icon of WWT appears on the desktop. Just when the installation seems to have finished a window showing an error message appears:

DirectX-Setup:

Der zurzeitangemeldete Benutzer verfügt nicht über Administrator-Rechte. Melden Sie als Administrator an, oder wenden Sie sich an den Computeradministrator

Do I have to be Administrator to install WWT?

If so,

why doesn't the installer ask for elevated rights just at the beginning?
why is this missing from the installation notes?

Hi,

I've installed World Wide Telescope, and when I try to run it this message comes up: "World wide telescope has encountered a problem and needs to close" and then It just closes.

I've got installed Windows VISTA. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, DirectX 9.0c and all System Requirements to ensure that WWT can run in a computer.

Can anyone help?
