InkSeine build 1.1.1714.0 now available

You can download InkSeine build 1.1.1714.0 here.

Here are the fixes and updates:

Windows 7 Support. InkSeine's search features now work on Windows 7.
Inking Performance. Inking now has a much snappier feel for drawing in InkSeine, particularly on UMPC's. .
New Page Viewing Options and Scrolling within Pages. See details in the blog post.
Hide / Show the Arc: You can now hide or show the arc containing the pens, highlighters, and other tools.
Tool Ring in task tray. The InkSeine Tool Ring now resides in the system task tray.
Print margins bug fixed.
File loading bug fixed.

InkSeine doesn't work with the Windows Desktop Search 4.0 Preview

A lot of InkSeine users are early adopters who have gone ahead and grabbed the Windows Desktop Search 4.0 Preview.

However, as these folks are discovering, InkSeine's Personal Search features DO NOT WORK with the Preview. If you want to keep using desktop searches from within InkSeine, avoid the preview or uninstall it if you've already grabbed it.

The upshot is that we can't fix this - it's a bug in the WDS 4.0 Preview that InkSeine is tripping. But we expect this bug to be fixed in the "real" release of WDS 4.0 - not sure when that will be though.

InkSeine version 1.1.425.0 now available!

We've got an InkSeine update available to fix a few outstanding bugs, some performance improvements, and to add a spiffy new rotation feature. This is a maintenance release to coincide with the Microsoft Office Labs launch - check it out!

To get the update, first uninstall InkSeine, then visit our Install page and grab the download. We thought we would be able to deploy this release by our AutoUpdate mechanism, but we are just now discovering that due to the way our installer was configured on the last external release, the AutoUpdater may not kick in, yet. It should be there for subsequent releases, though.

Also, there is now a dedicated InkSeine forum on GottaBeMobile.com - I recommend raise all your InkSeine questions and feature requests as new threads so that they are easier for others to see and contribute to.

Localization bugs - and some other issues - all FIXED!

We have fixed the localization bugs, and a few other small bugs reported, such as the failure of the InkSeine installer to create a file association for InkSeine .iks files.

We recommend all users install this update, but particularly users outside the United States should be sure to get it because one of the localization bugs can cause files that you save to be unreadable when you try to load it back in, which is a serious bug.

We sincerely apologize to our friends in the international Tablet PC & UMPC communities who have tripped on this bug.

Fix coming next week for InkSeine localization issues

InkSeine'ers,

I've put together a blog post discussing the localization bug that has put a kink in the inky goodness for our Tablet PC friends outside of the US. It only occurs for those users who employ non-American ways to view dates and decimal numbers on their systems. The symptom is that copy/paste, undo/redo, and loading files your have saved all do not work.

We already have a fix for this that we are testing internally, and it will be available for download next week.It will also roll in fixes for a few other small issues that have been reported. For further details see the blog post.

The really good news is that this is the only significant bug that has been discovered!

My humblest apologies if this bug has affected you.

The first public release of the InkSeine download is not yet available. The link will be provided here when it is.

Please remember that InkSeine is Microsoft Research download, and thus is not a supported Microsoft product - nor is it intended to become a product in the future. We will do our best to fix major bugs that arise, but we are a small team and must be strategic in which issues we spend our time on.
