"Start Recording Failed" Reason- Can't Start Recording

I just downloaded the trial version. Two issues.

1. When I hit the record button I get a message stating "Start Recording Failed" Reason- Can't Start Recording Basically I can't use the program. Demos work etc.

2. The Window is larger than my screen size.

Instruments not matching vocal key

Hey everyone... I have been playing around with the Songsmith trial version and have not had any luck with the software matching my singing. I am a semi-professional singer with over 15 years of experience. The software is not even close to the right key on anything I have tried. I have tried humming and singing but no luck. I am getting plenty of mic power to the software but during playback it sounds horrid.

I have a decent PC running XP. There seems to be a slight latency issue also and moving the slider does not seem to do much.

Any ideas?

1) I've been working with Songsmith successfully (and with much pleasure) off and on for several months, but tonight for some reason I'm not able to open it. I continually get the message that "Songsmith has encouraged a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I've sent the error report.

Can anyone at this stage shed light on the possible problem?

F2) Will it be possible to upgrade free of charge to the newer version of Songsmith?

Microphone & "sound recorder" application

Hi Dan, How do I know if i have the "sound recorder" application that comes with Windows? I know that probably sounds really stupid, but I am not really comuter savy (ect)...Also, what kind of microphone would I need to get to use this program & finally..WHAT IS THE TOTAL COST if I would like to purchase this tomorrow & how would I do that? I have 3 problems with songsmith:

1: It ruins my songs when recording

2: It won't state the right chords,

3: Doesn't have THE genre I use, the Acoustic.

You guys had any bad experiences??

Cant get Songsmith to open

After I completed my free trial, I purchased songsmith and downloaded it multiple times, from the online store and from the MS Research website. There is a message that keeps popping up everytime I try to open songsmith it says : "The system for monitoring the trial period failed to initialize (reason: unable to initialize TimeBomb class (reason: could not find any recognizable digits )). This error prevents Songsmith from running."

Hi,

I am having problems loading Songsmith on Windows Vista.

The first error i get is

Songsmith.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point ??1CStaticCritSec@@QAE@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library wbemcomn.dll.

This is when I load up Songsmith.

The second error is after pressing continue trial and says:

Audio Initialization failed :(reason: The audio registry keys were found to be missing, but could not be reinstalled ( reason: access to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft Research\Songsmith Audio Engine' is denied)).

This error prevents songsmith from running.

Any help would be brilliant

unable to record my vocals on windows Vista!!! with Songsmith

Hi i just got the trial version of songsmith... i tried recording a song... no wavelength for voice appeared... cheched mic it said enabled... vocals not recorded!!! of cource sad first song... am i missing something do i have to have an external mic? when i went to mic it said no voice recording in set up... do i have to change that??? got lots of songs loved the tool... also is there a way to transpose the whole song to a higher key??? thank you

Importing a new .wma file and generating new chords for the new .wma

Is there anyway I can re-edit the XML file using Office Excel (.songsmith unzipped creates a wma file and an xml file) to tell Songsmith to generate new chords to the new .wma?

I was successfully able to unzip the .songsmith file, replace the .wma with a new .wma, and then re-zip the files. The new .songsmith file with the new .wma inside of it played back fine on Songsmith.

The only problem is when I use this method to start a song with a completely new .wma I still get all the old chords for the old .wma file that has been replaced.

Cannot complete purchase Australia not in the list.

I want to purchase the download programme but billing address doesnt have Australia in it so I was never able to complete my purchase of Songsmith. Garritan instrument packs for Songsmith

I cannot recommend the Garritan expansion pack instruments

1. Each pack costs $9.99 USD and gives you less than 10 instruments each. Songsmith already has over 70 instruments.

2. The add-on instruments do not provide any useful pop instruments. I would love to see different distortion/overdrive levels of guitars and different EQs and reverbs of acoustic piano. But the expansion pack contains no additional guitar or piano sounds.

3. The installation is kind of confusing. After you download the files, you have to add the .exe to the filename. And the files are installed to either the "Garritan" or "Plogue" folders of program files instead of the "Songsmith" folder.

4. None of the new sounds are used as default instruments for the styles, not even the new expansion styles. Unless you manually select a new sound for an instrument, you will never hear the new sounds. And if you change styles, all of the new sounds will be deselected because all styles will reset to their original instrument sounds.

Static hiss in exported WAV and WMA files

When I export a song, there is only a loud static hiss where the voice portion of the song should be. The instrumental intro and exit is fine. Does anyone no how to correct this?

I am using XP on an IBM Thinkpad.

since my pc is offine ive had to download and save the demo to a usb mem stick,

then i find out i need net framework 3.0 so i download this but it wont install as its trying to download a 16mb file from the net!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why even let me download and save the file if i cant use it !!

i dont have the internet at home, i use my friends or work for internet access, i wanted to try out song smith on my home pc,

BandInABox error on English system

Hello all.

I saw the other post about the BandInABox API error when recording, that was related to non-English systems, but this does not apply to me. In my case, SongSmith works well in an admin account, and gets the BandInABox API error in a standard account running with parental control. (Vista 32-bit, English).

The exact errors are:

The audio services API BandInABoxIO.GenerateArrangement() failed (reason: No arrangement generated).
(while choosing style)
The audio services API BandInABoxIO.GenerateDrumLoop() failed (reason: Unable to create drum loop).
(When pressing record)

Can anybody help me? I can´t do anything due to this error:

The audio services API BandInABoxIO.GenerateDrumLoop() failed (reason: Unable to create drum loop)

I read someone telling it was going to be fixed some time ago... but it isn´t . Anybody knows about a patch or something like that?

mic gain slider not working on XP

In the Microphone Configuration, the Microphone Gain just stays to the far left - I can cannot move the pointer (the diamond that shows the gain position) with the mouse at all. Any ideas?

Placing intro Drum Tracks

Hi,

I own Firstake Studios here in Atlanta. I just used SongSmith for a new piece and found something I believe to be a bug maybe?

I recorded my piece and placed a couple of chords in the wrong place manually. I then exported it and transfered it to my Mackie HDR recorder and D8B system. I realized I had made the errors and went back to re do and fixthe chords. Now it will not allow me to record the same piece - or maby I should say - EXPORT - the same piece again and include the Drums intro. Not sure why. But after several hours trying everything I know, I can't get the export feature to include a 2 bar Drums only intro like it did the first time I exported the piece.

It is a full song and sounds very good. I was a bit srpprised actually. I'm at a loss here. Is it possible you could tell me how I could include the 2 bar Drums only intro into my song? Its important if you could find the time to help.

Trial Download Difficulty/Failure

I would love to try Songsmith, it sounds like just what I am looking for, but I can't get the trial to download. I'm pretty sure that my system meets all of the requirements, but I could be mistaken.

When I tried to download the trial, for a couple of seconds it seemed as if it was going to work. The icon with the music note appeared in my browser. . I waited for several minutes, but it didn't. Could you please send me a link to copy and paste,or some other option that might work.

Songsmith installation with Windows XP SP3

I am trying to install Songsmith with the above. I have .NET 3.5. It asks for the Hotfix, but when trying to install "Update for XP SP2 x86 (KB937106)" it then states Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying.

Round in circles I go.

Please help.
