1)  I've been working with Songsmith successfully (and with much pleasure) off and on for several months, but  tonight for some reason I'm not able to open it. I continually get the message  that "Songsmith has encouraged a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I've sent the error report.

Can anyone at this stage shed light on the possible problem?

F2)  Will it be possible to upgrade free of charge to the newer version of Songsmith?

Thank you.

Just to follow up: I rebooted the computer, hoping that might solve the problem. Unfortunately, it didn't.

This is the error message:

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

EventType : clr20r3     P1 : songsmith.exe     P2 : 2008.12.10.0

P3 : 4942c6c6     P4 : mscorlib     P5 : 2.0.0.0     P6 : 492b834a     P7 : 1b2a

P8 : c     P9 : system.io.filenotfoundexception

Hoping someone can help. I'm keen to use the programme again. Wink

This is the encrypted error description:

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

EventType : clr20r3     P1 : songsmith.exe     P2 : 2008.12.10.0

P3 : 4942c6c6     P4 : mscorlib     P5 : 2.0.0.0     P6 : 492b834a     P7 : 1b2a

P8 : c     P9 : system.io.filenotfoundexception

I re-booted the PC in hopes that it would help, but it didn't.

Regarding (1)... can you think of any other configuration changes (hardware or software) that happened on your computer recently that might have caused this sudden change in behavior?  Are you experiencing unexpected behavior in any other software as well, or just Songsmith?  If the problem continues, the first thing I'd try is removing and reinstalling Songsmith, which brings us to...

Regarding (2)... the most recent Songsmith update (version 1.02) will work fine with your existing license key, so yes, you can upgrade for free.  The only major difference you'll notice, if you had version 1.01, is that the instruments now have reverb on them, so they should sound a little more full.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for getting back to me, Dan. In the meantime, I've solved the first problem, and Songsmith is up and running once again.

Glad to hear I can upgrade gratis to version 1.02. Will it take over all the different genre styles that I currently use in my original version? I purchased extra ones just after buying 1.01.   Is it possible to have the key sent to me? Outlook Express managed to delete a large segment of my early 2009 inbox emails recently, and if the key was in any of those those, it's long gone.

Upgrading to version 1.02 won't affect the additional styles you've downloaded; they'll still be there.

You also shouldn't have to re-enter your license key when you upgrade (it's stored on your computer), but if you do need to retrieve your license key at some point, you'll have to contact the Microsoft Store:

Hope that helps... have fun!

Hi, I have this quite same prob and I tell you upgrading to version 1.02 did not solve either. You can try though, maybe it will work for you. I have someone working on it right now and still trying to fix it.
