Hi,
I want to try Together Search. Then I install it in my browser without problem (I have to install the supplement library like explian here : http://research.microsoft.com/searchtogether/tutorial.html).
But I do'nt succeed to connect me. I always have this message :
"Unable to sign. Please ensure that your username and password are correct and the network connection available."
Ther is no probleme with the internet connection and i have a hotmail adress (anf i'm sure of my password)
I have only a hotmail adress. Is it enough or must I have anything else ? (windows live ID - windows live) ?
Thanks
Hi Arnaudhul,
Yes, you will need to create a Windows Live ID. You can do so here: http://get.live.com/getlive/overview

Hi Merrie
I don't understand. When I click on the link, I click then on sign up and I'm said to have already one.
When the systme ask me to identify, i write my Windows Live ID (= my email adress hotmail ? -> arnaudhul (at) hotmail.com) + my password and I don't succeed.
Can you explain me like I'm four years old ?
(Sorry for my not very good english but I do what I can).
I am older than arnaudhul ... you can treat me like a five year old
I have the same error. I confirmed my Windows Live ID with a successful sign on at https://login.live.com.
My Live stuff: Live Spaces, Live Mesh, Skydrive, Office, Messenger
Many people in my workplace are having the same issue...
Where can I find requirements for this application to work in IE7? Like general system requirements, restrictions, what outbound tcp/udp protocol ports are used, what may restrict this via group policies, etc.
*this would be a great application to have at the workplace; however, a lot of corporate policies are in place and restrict the use of IM (instant messaging) applications (blocking both outbound and inbound ports for these apps) and I'm guessitmating because we login with a windows live userid, that it's essentially tying in our msn buddy lists with internet explorer 7 searches.
Is there someone to help us ?
Thanks for reporting this bug you are experiencing. SearchTogether is beta software, designed to prototype new concepts we are exploring at Microsoft Research; since it is not a full-fledged product, there may still be some bugs. You mentioned that many people at your workplace are experiencing the same bug -- perhaps there is a setting on your corporation's firewall that is interfering with the connection? Unfortunately, this type of issue is quite difficult for us to debug remotely, and since we are only a prototype and not a product, we are unable to offer extensive customer support. We appreciate your interest in SearchTogether, and will take your feedback into account if we make future refinements to the software.
I am unable to get SearchTogether to Connect using Vista OS and IE7. SearchTogether seems to have installed fine. When I clicked "Connect" I got the error "Unable to initialize application". I extracted and attempted to install the vs_piaredist.exe package, but it appears to exit in the middle of installation without any noticeable error. Vista warned me that the application may not have installed correctly and offered a do-over with compatibility settings, but that failed too. I retried Connecting with SearchTogether and got the same result as before.
As a Web Developer and Biomedical Research Librarian, I really look forward to using ST and to see further expansion of supported search engines. Thanks!
