    HI!

I am Hasan Sayani and I direct the Graduate Program in Software Engineering at the University of Maryland University College.  As a Professor, I also teach Software Engineering (SWEN) courses and am a Doctoral Faculty as well.

I am fascinated by Systems and have experience in tools and methods for developing Information Systems (I was part of the ISDOS Project at the University of Michigan and have written about PSL/PSA in IEEE publications and elsewhere).  I developed a Graduate Curriculum in Systems Engineering.

I also spearheaded the development of a Semantic Database System (not the kind you hear about associated with the Semantic Web, but based on human cognition - in particular, how humans compose their thoughts in sentences).

I have been part of Microsoft's Faculty Advisory Board (I attended TechEd, Academic Days, PDC, Faculty-Research Summits, etc.)  Our students use Microsoft technologies in their classes (Project, Visio, Visual Studio, SQL, etc.) - we are part of the Microsoft Academic Alliance.

My fascination with Systems has prompted me to write about generalized strategies for understanding systems even when they are under-documented (think of the blind men and the elephant!)  I have also used our Semantic Database (called CaMERA) to model several Ontologies.
