The installer only installs on XP SP2 or Vista, leaving XP SP3 out...

This bug is related to MultiPoint, not WWT. Thanks for the help anyway, as it fixed my problems with WWT... 

I'm getting the message "Windows MultiPoint SDK only runs on Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista." when trying to install on a Windows XP Service Pack 3 computer...

If you modify these two registry settings...

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion      from 0x00000300    to    0x00000200

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\CSDVersion       from "Service Pack 3"   to     "Service Pack 2"

 Reboot the computer----

      Install MultiPoint SDK----

            Set the two registry keys back to their original values-----

                Reboot the computer once more----

VOILA!!!!!!

I have a laptop issued from my school district, running XP sp3, and I am not supposed to mess with the registry.  Is there another work-around for installing multi-point?

Please note that while every effort has been made to test this to ensure no side effects, modifying the released installer may have irreversible side effects and should be done with caution.

Obviously Nick cant read... I ALREADY POSTED THE SOLUTION!!!!  two registry keys, and you want to install some application to take care of the scary thought of editing them yourself. ORCA edits the same exact keys, only you have to download and install an application for the same result.  thanks for ALL your GREAT help DUDE!!!!  what would we have done without a miracle worker like yourself?

Whoa there Edison,  looks like your batteries are not fully charged.

The fix you suggested is not a good idea as any software on your machine that queries the registry will return an incorrect result while the values are changed.  Since you have no idea what might be reading your registry at any given time...

Nick’s approach, actually modifies the MSI installer itself and not the registry, It’s much safer.

FYI, Orca has nothing to do with the registry it’s a tool for viewing and editing the resources in in msi installers.  

No one said to keep those registry changes.... they are just temporary until you get it installed, then you set them back.  Im not just speaking out of my ass--- I have done this procedure myself, and it works perfectly.

Wow, just wow ..obviously you're the one that can't read. Did you not bother looking at the quoted post below before nerd raging at someone for offering an alternate solution to your own? Regardless of whether your solution worked or not, altering the registry like that is never a good idea to begin with - Nicks solution is a 5sec removal of a install condition from an msi; no altering of your system required. Oh damn hold up I forgot! You have to install orcas which is a 1.5mb download before you can do that! What a travesty! Honestly I'd rather just do that than bother with editing the registry and rebooting twice.

Next time how about not making failure flame posts when people offer working alternative suggestions to your own, there isn't always one answer to everything; and one answer may be suitable for one person but not for another.
