I was able install WWT on work computer and yes - it works. The only difference I see between work and home computers are video cards. At home I have nVidia - and it does not work. At work I have ATI and it works pretty fine. Images rendering instantly. So my next step to solve update nVidia driver. Will let you know results.

I was really impressed. It is GREATE program. Thank you, Microsoft.

Same problem here; also on XP... and I also don't know how to start it in window mode right away, because reducing it to a window after it starts in full screen doesn't work... Any progress, anyone?

Aye, there doesn't seem to be a way to start it in window mode. It worked for me by resizing the window. It also works for me in full screen mode if I change my monitor resolution from 1680 x 1050 to 1440 x 900. Obviously not a great solution but it makes it useable.

Resizing doesn't appear to work on my system. My display is set 1280 x 1024 and downsizing to 1024 x 768 makes no difference. I'm using the latest ATI drivers and have all XP patchs/SPs installed.

Does your telescope application function?

The application appears to run fine except that none of the sky objects display, i.e., no stars, planets, galaxies, etc. The constellation

outlines are there, the equatorial marker, the grids, and even the object identifier. If I select an object (planet for example), the display moves

center on that object and then appears to zoom in, but I'm looking into a black hole.

I'm having the same problem everyone else seems to be having.  I've installed it on a Toshiba A75, great laptop.  All I get in the programme are lines where the constelations ought be.  I can zoom, and do pretty much anything I want but see the pretty pictures, which is why I downloaded the programme in the first place.

I tried going into windowed mode, but that was no help to me.  I have an ATI graphics card with 256 dedicated ram for it, along with a P4 3.06 with 1.5 gigs of ram.

I also noticed the programme takes 100% of the processor, while pretty much ignoring the ram I have.

Anyone who has any possible solution, it'd be great, because when the BF put it on his computer, I fell in lurve!  It's so pretty!

I too WAS having this problem

I went to the NVIDIA website and downloaded the latest driver for my graphics card ; restarted my computer and launched MSWWT and it now works great. Images are crystal clear.

heres a link if you use an nvidia graphics card.

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

I used option 2. (automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products)

 Give it a try.

It worked for me.

Yup - update your NVIDIA drivers. Worked for me too.

What the heck...  always wanted to say this....     Me too!  Smile

Win XP Home.  Windowed view doesnt fix it.  ATI Card...  not latest drivers...  I suspect the install went wrong...  it didnt ask me about directx or .net...   also I think a windows update was happening in background...   Tried uninstall and re-install, tried repair .net2.0...

This thing is teasing me...  it looks like it will be wonderfull...  but right now I can only see it in action by watching the demo videos.  Sad

Downloaded the program yesterday. All screens are white, earth, sky etc. Tours have audio but no image. I'm running XP sp2 1200 mgs ram, with all updates to directx and net framework done yesterday to try to fix. My sis 651 video drivers are the latest (2006) release. My default browser is Firefox, but IE6 is also installed. My firewall is configured to allow the program unfiltered web access. I have re-installed the program 3 times to no avail.

Downloaded WWT at work and was stunned by this great program. I was so excited to get home an install it on my P4 2.26 Xp SP3 with 2MB RAM sitting behind my LCD TV. I have all the latest Radeon 9250 drivers for my card at 1280 x 768 (gotta see this big!). So here it comes.....ME TOO!

The program seems to work in all respects, but all I get are the constellation lines and BLACKNESS in the viewing area. I can zoom, pan and scan, but there's nothing there. The thumbnail images are fine.

So far I've thought that I can either move to the office, or buy a better video card (i KNOW IT'S NOT GREAT), but THERE MUST BE AN EASY FIX.  - HELP!

Hi all,

I was having the same problem reported by everyone here until I realised I was also running PeerGuardian. Disabling peerguardian fixed the problem for me. Evidently the images are served from a network that is blocked by peerguardian.

 Hope that helps someone.

ATI based video works great on machine at work. NVIDIA based machine at home does not.  Images are not displayed regardless of windowed / full screen; 1024/768 or other video settings; running XP pro sp3 P4 2.8 ghz, 2 gig RAM; updated NVIDIA drivers. Home setting is ethernet connected to router on DSL line with Router based firewall.  Same setup at work.  Home system also runs norton A/V software package provided by ISP (ATT-Yahoo.)  No proxies on either system. No other filters or protection software. Windows firewall disabled. Internet Security settings at defaults.  IE explorer as browser. WWT set up as 'Microsoft Game' type application in Gateway Router Firewall.

Any and all suggestions welcome.  I would really like to get this working on my home machine.

I waited a bit before trying to get the latest ATI (radeon 9250) drivers since it seemed there may be other things going on... and I dont like changeing software and then later discovering other problems from the fix.

But it seemed that most are getting a fix by updating drivers so I did too...  unfortunately no fix.  This beautiful program is teasing me....  Big Smile
