Symptoms:

When installing WWT, a different program attempts to install.

Cause:

WWT extracts the Setup.exe file to your temp directory and runs it there.  If there is another setup exe in that temp directory then that setup file is executed.

Resolution(s):

There are two possible resolutions for this issue.

  • Delete the contents of your Temp directory.
    • Temp directory can be located in these directory C:\Temp or C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Temp (for Vista)
    • Reinstall WWT Setup

  • Save WWT Setup to a different directory
    • Create a folder called "wwt" on your root drive Example: c:\wwt"
    • Go to http://www.worldwidetelescope.org/ download WWT. When prompted, Save the file to the folder you created.
    • Navigate to the folder you created and run WWT Setup.
    • Delete the setup file and folder once installation is complete

This solution didn't work for me.

This did...

In C:\WINDOWS\Installer moved the most recent installers to a different directory.

Installed WWT

Moved the installers back

Unfortunately, clearing the Windows temp directory or moving the Windows installer folder contents did not help for me.  However, I did get it to install successfully by moving the downloaded installer into a directory only containing the installer.

I've tried deleting the contents of both temp directories but still have the problem with WWT trying to setup RemoteCalanders.

What did work was to move the setupwwt.exe to an empty folder and then running it from there.

ConfusedI found that by moving the install folder to a different directory it installed correctly.

The cleartype install popping up was really beginning to tick me off. I tried emptying the Temp folder but that wasn't helpful at all.

Thanks for the heads up Guys, it was really helpful.

Cheers,

Bill

This does seem to be the best fix for this issue:

Save WWT Setup to a different directory

  • Create a folder called "wwt" on your root drive Example: c:\wwt"
  • Go to http://www.worldwidetelescope.org/ download WWT. When prompted, Save the file to the folder you created.
  • Navigate to the folder you created and run WWT Setup.
  • Delete the setup file and folder once installation is complete.

If you start WWSetup.exe then do not exit the different setup program do the following:

1. Start Command Prompt (cmd.exe)

2. dir %temp%\WWTSetup.msi /s

3. Find the relevant directory and executee the MSI or setup.exe from that directory

 Example:

C:\DOCUME~1\Malc\LOCALS~1\Temp>dir %temp%\WWTSetup.msi /s
Volume in drive C has no label.
 Volume Serial Number is 5814-391F

 Directory of C:\DOCUME~1\Malc\LOCALS~1\Temp\WZSE0.TMP

Empty the Temp directory didn´t work for me but moving the installer to an empty folder works fine. Thanks Jim

Cheers.
